Le Veilleur Berbère / Berber Watcher
Private Collection

The “Berber Watcher” is a commissioned work created in 2022 in patinated terracotta, inspired by a sculpture by Henri Bouchard (1875–1960).
The original 1923 piece was commissioned by André Citroën to commemorate the first trans-Saharan crossing aboard a half-track vehicle.
Far from any intent to celebrate technological progress or glorify colonialism, I chose to depict solely the Berber man — majestic, and in my view the only being truly respectful of the wonder that is the desert.
He watches over it, peacefully and steadfastly.
I am deeply grateful to the collector who entrusted me with this commission and granted me full freedom in its interpretation.
